3 Main Benefits of Developing iPhone Applications for Your Business

3 Main Benefits of AppzDev developing iPhone Applications for Your Business

There's been a sensation about Apple's iPhone recently, and much speculation as for to buy iPhone or not, its advantages and disadvantages, usefulness of developing iPhone applications and so on. Apple itself has recently begun an advertising campaign and a TV commercial featuring a dozen free and paid business apps with the tagline "Helping you run your small business one app at a time."

Why is it beneficial to have your own iPhone application developed by AppzDev?

1. iPhone applications give employees the opportunity to access information easily from anywhere where they have access to the internet. Every week even more businesses are realizing the benefits of mobile applications and web-based access. Besides increasing overall employee productivity, mobile applications boost efficiency and internal revenues by unifying communications with entire business structure.

There are two ways of using iPhone applications: they can be your business, or they can be made to help your business.

2. The iPhone market is still in the early stages and growing quickly, which makes it even more attractive for business owners. That is the reason why the popularity of iPhone applications within corporations is growing. Apple is trying to do its best to support business apps development, and the next version of iPhone software is announced to be released in June. It'll allow the developers to sell additional services within applications, and buyers – use these new features to create a better and more distinctive application.

Being an innovative first-generation device, iPhone captured hearts of a vast majority of people. Apple has reported that over five hundred million applications were downloaded and about a billion dollars was gained only in apps this year. Apple's counterparts, Google (Android), RIM (Blackberry), Microsoft (Windows Mobile), and Qualcomm (Palm) have announced launching app stores as well. Running application business is at the height of its fame.

3. An iPhone application is a product that can be used to promote your business or it can be sold as a consumer product. A mobile application is a good way both to produce and invest at the present time.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- There is an app for just about everything. It isn't surprising that the demand for people to design those apps has spiked in recent years.

AppzDev have been developing apps since the first iphone landed on the market.

"We've done several of our own apps, but we've also done apps for Oak Star Bank and North Point Church," Bevis said.

His company, AppzDev, even gained a little national notoriety

"Marriage Fight Tracker which helps keep track of your arguments," Bevis said, "It said iphone marriage on the front of Time Magazine and it talked about our app when you talked about the article."

He's one of many taking advantage of a rapidly growing industry.

Top Angry Birds Exec Thinks Piracy Can Help Promote Games

App piracy is something which is a real problem for many iOS developers, especially the smaller, independent ones. Things don’t get much easier for the big guys, either.
Rovio, the people behind Angry Birds, also suffer from a spot of piracy, and not just of the variety, either. All sorts of merchandise is being made and sold in Asia, with Rovio getting nothing by way of monetary compensation. But that doesn’t seem to bother Rovio’s CEO Mikael Hed.
In fact, he seems to be surprisingly happy about it…
See, Hed believes that while piracy is indeed a problem, it does actually help to build a fan base, whether through official channels or not.
Speaking at a music conference in Cannes, Hed said that ”tons and tons” of unofficial toys and the like are being sold and that app piracy is widespread. But that’s OK, because Rovio would rather continue to build its fan base rather than spend time trying to stop those nasty pirates.
It’s an interesting approach, and one that former Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka also took to an age-old issue that has troubled the gaming industry since the very beginning.
We’re just not so sure we agree with it.

6 Ways to Give Your App a Leg Up on the Competition

Spend a few minutes browsing through the Apple app store and it’s easy to see the fierce competition for user attention. The number of apps has grown to more than 1 million, each vying for downloads and market share.
The app development world is still very top-heavy, with a very small percentage of developers controlling the majority of downloads and revenue. But that in no way means that a newcomer can’t build a successful app that captures the hearts and minds of consumers, and becomes the next big thing.
Since the app stores themselves control which apps are elevated and highlighted, how can you ensure your app gets time in the spotlight and the attention it deserves? Here are six tips drawn from experience.
First of all you need your own iPhone App.  Get an app developed here.

1. Focus on Product

The best way to get your app noticed is to build a unique and engaging product. Although that’s an article all on its own, let’s sum it up in a few key points.
Know your exact market and who you’re competing against. This will help you understand your target user — what he expects and likes and who else is offering apps to him.
Great apps are also usually the first in their category, or apps that completely reinvent existing categories. A big sign that you have a great app is when you start seeing copycat apps. Embrace them and use them as motivation to continue.
Another element that great apps have in common is fun. You want to make your app something that users will come back to again and again, rather than a one-time, disposable thrill. Whether that means creating lovable characters or tapping into the human desire to compete, remember to deliver fun the first time and every time after.
Also, great apps are simple. No user guides should be necessary to participate, and there should be nothing to “figure out” from a user standpoint. They are intuitive and immediately easy to grasp.
Finally, the last big hallmark of a phenomenal app product is the ability for users to make the app personal through customization features. Today’s app audience is constantly wondering what’s in it for them. Allow them to make it theirs and they’ll more likely become instantly enamored.

2. Allow Users to Engage Others with Your App

These days, more developers are using social media as part of the app as a major key to its success. Your customers’ word-of-mouth multiplies your network a hundred times over without costing you a dime, so be sure to put mechanisms in place that allow users to talk about the app and share experiences with friends.
For example, if your app enables users to create fun videos, make sure they can share those videos with others. This type of direct experience sharing will go a long way in spreading the word about your app.
Caveat: Don’t “over-viralize” your app with too many social features that don’t make sense.

3. Get Media and Blogger Attention: Make It Simple

Media attention and especially reviews of your app can really help to spread recognition. To get that kind of attention, though, you have to have a solid app to begin with, a great story around your app, and it absolutely must be easy to talk about.
The tendency is to come up with the most ingenious, compelling app, filled with loads of features but none that really stand out. This is called “feature creep” and usually spells disaster. Remember, the launch is just the beginning. Successful apps are always adding new content months after launch. If reporters and bloggers (and users for that matter) have a hard time explaining what your app is, what it does or why they like it, they’re less likely to talk about your app. Keep version one simple.
To make your app easier for media to cover, provide materials like press kits, beta codes (if necessary) and reviewer guides. It also helps to identify technology and pop culture trend stories that your app can fit into.

4. Continue Your Marketing Efforts

When your app launches, you’ll definitely want to have a marketing strategy in place to seize your launch window of opportunity, but it’s also important to continue marketing long after launch.
Many developers find pre-launch strategies helpful for grabbing attention. This includes creating a “coming soon” page that teases your app a bit, collecting emails for those interested in the first look, and even extending first invites to target publication audiences.
Make sure you exhaust every “co-marketing” opportunity out there with other app developers. Some major publishers will trade their app installs for your app installs. Everybody is in the same boat, in the same huge ocean of apps. You might be surprised to find that other developers are more than happy to participate in reciprocal marketing.
The important thing to remember is that app marketing windows are perpetual, meaning you should establish marketing vehicles that you can trigger at your discretion over long periods of time. That means plan, plan, plan.

5. Use Analytics

When developing apps, you have all kinds of data at your fingertips to evaluate how your app is being received. Use analytics to monitor your ranking and as a marketing tool.
Become a student of the Android and iOS category rankings (e.g., entertainment vs. games). Each category has its own nuances for determining “top” rankings, so be sure to evaluate each one. Understand why the app moved up in the rankings in order to iterate and improve your own ranking over time. Additionally, if you have a good sense of what is moving the bar for your app, you can also learn from what the top developers are doing.
More importantly, in my opinion, is that you leverage the wealth of analytics available from your app to make your app better over time. Not only will the data help you iterate and improve your app from a technical standpoint, but it will also allow you to create the right content to which users connect. Once the app is live, analyze the data to update your release schedule and product roadmap.
You can also learn when your customers are willing to “rate your app” or be pitched another app in your portfolio. Analytics can shed light on how frequently you should attempt to cross-sale or suggest another item for purchase.

6. Prepare for Success

This tip may seem a little strange at first — who wouldn’t be thinking about success? But in reality, many apps start strong then fade and fizzle. Preparing for success is as much about your product as it is about the team behind it.
It’s crucial to structure your team in a way that supports hyper growth. It’s good to rely on a more fluid and dynamic network of expertise and project teams than a rigid structure.
Think of your app as a brand that will enable you to leverage brand extension opportunities. Build your apps to welcome future cross-promotion opportunities, rather than intrusions on the user experience.
The best way to prepare for app success is to constantly focus on keeping your users engaged. Give them more than just product updates once they’ve downloaded and become fans of your app. Give them instant fun, addictive experiences that they will want to share with friends.
Whatever your secret sauce is or has been, be sure to nurture it to keep your users wanting more — and deliver your app in a way that surpasses user expectations.

Home Inventory iPhone App gaining users

HOME INVENTORY VIDEO   Download

After the Joplin, Missouri Tornado hit and nearly wiped out the city we knew an app like this was needed. It’s ahead of the rest since it lets you record video and upload it offsite.  So, if you lose your phone (or a tornado hits), you'll still have a video record of all you own in your home or business.

How to Pick the Right Name for Your Business or your next iPhone App:

How to Pick the Right Name for Your Business or your next iPhone App:

Abstract or dead simple? Clever irony? Cute and playful? There are endless paths to take when brainstorming your new business name. But for many small business owners and entrepreneurs, the naming process is fraught with uncertainty and doubt.

Yet, the stakes couldn't be higher. A business begins with a name — the cornerstone of company identity that shapes branding, company tone and first impressions. Whether you'll be name-brainstorming yourself or have hired a branding firm, here are a few tips to help you pick the right name for your new business.

1. Set the tone. Your business name sets the tone for all that follows. Think about what's important to you and your business. What's the first thing you want a customer to think in regard to your business? For example, a young company breaking into the financial advising field may be more concerned about credibility, and thus forgo the edgy, attention-grabbing name. Your own tone can be playful or academic, edgy or professional. Just make sure it reflects what your business is and what you want it to be in the future.

2. Simple is strong. A powerful name is easy to spell, pronounce and remember. After all, what good is word-of-mouth if your customer tells a friend, "You really should look up my caterer for your next event. I think their name begins with an A…"

If you need to explain a business name, you've failed to make an impact. One creative marketing consultant selected a variant of the name Agora for her business, loving the connection to the ancient Greek word agora, meaning marketplace. She quickly abandoned the name when a colleague's first reaction was "I get it. Sometimes I feel agoraphobic when I've got a big project too."

3. Do not use initials! We all know the business landscape has an affinity for acronyms, but try to avoid using initials for your company name. A random collection of letters doesn't inspire an emotional connection. And you can run into legal and branding headaches by juggling two different business names (the initials and the name spelled out).

4. Opt for a descriptive name. A descriptive name helps frame your company better than a generic one. For example, consider Speedy Electronics vs. Speedy, Inc. Adding this qualifier instantly tells potential customers what your business is all about.

5. Don't box yourself in. While descriptive is good, you don't want your name to be too descriptive, in case you end up expanding your offerings down the road. Imagine if Target still went by its original name, Dayton Dry Goods Company. You need to consider where your brand is today, as well as where you want to go in the future.

6. Watch out for language pitfalls. A word in English may have a negative meaning in another language or culture. And enthusiastic business owners can be blind to awkward puns and double entendres. The best way to avoid creating an embarrassing or damaging brand situation is to test your name on your target audiences; they may see something you missed.

7. Give any new name time to sink in. It can take some time for a new name to feel right, and you may need to use your name for several months before it starts to feel natural. This is particularly true when a name is off the beaten path, which is often the case for some the industry's most memorable and impactful names. Just imagine the initial reaction to the name "Google."

Along these lines, a strong brand or product can overcome a potentially ill-conceived name. When Apple first unveiled its tablet, I was skeptical of the choice in name. I was far from alone. Yet fast forward a few years and the word "iPad" is a natural part of my daily vernacular (and I never think of feminine hygiene).

8. Don't finalize too soon. The most important lesson is not to get too attached to any one name during the brainstorming process. When inspiration strikes, it's all too tempting to start envisioning your company logo, web design, signage, business cards, etc. But you've got to make sure that perfect name is legally available for you to use — no one wants to be on the wrong end of a trademark dispute.

Gmail returns to App Store for iPhone

Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported that the official Gmail app made a quick and fleeting appearance in the Apple iTunes App Store, before being unceremoniously yanked due to a serious bug.
Well, Gmail has finally returned. Hopefully, all those shocked people who greeted its original disappearance with the kind of ire usually reserved for criminal acts, will now be happy and rejoice.
In an official blog posting today, Matthew Izatt, Product Manager at Google revealed the happy news:
Two weeks ago, we introduced our Gmail app for iOS. Unfortunately it contained a bug which broke notifications and displayed an error message, so we removed it from the App Store. We've fixed the bug and notifications are now working, and the app is back in the App Store.
During the past couple of weeks apparently, the Google team solicited a lot of feedback and feature requests. By the sounds of things, the company hopes to offer additional functionality in future updates. "We're just getting started with the Gmail app for iOS and will be iterating rapidly to bring you more features," says Matthew Izatt.
The app hasn't been too positively received so far though. There's no support for multiple accounts, for example, and it certainly doesn't feel like the solid, dependable experience you get on Android smartphones and tablets.
But, at least it's critical-bug free now, and hopefully future updates will see better functionality and further improvements. After all, it took quite a few updates on the Android side of things to improve the app significantly. If you're really having a tough time with the iOS app, the native Mail app or the browser-based Gmail both still do a pretty decent job.
Reviews will start trickling into the iTunes App Store for version 1.02 soon, and Lifehacker have already dubbed it "still kind of crappy." For the previous version, ITunes user reviews were lukewarm at best. Sounds like Gmail is definitely a work in progress, but we're still pleased to see it back.
